We would like to address a common complaint by foreigners, which is that some tickets expensive when compared to tickets for Sri Lankans. Yes, locals do get cheaper rates, mainly because all prices are subsidized to match the purchasing power of an average Sri Lankan family or person.

As most things in Sri Lanka, like healthcare or education, the Sri Lankan government subsidizes many things in order to provide affordable, convenient and unhindered access to all cultural and historical sites. Thus promoting awareness and education of our cultural heritage. Another rationale could be  would be as locals we tend to visit these places more than once on holidays. I must add that this sentiment of inflated prices is not universal among all tourists. Some consider the price being paid by them would contribute  to maintain and sustain these cultural and historical sites for many generation to come.
